How We Fly is a combined art show featuring the artwork of Adrienne Domnick, Sabrina Howard & Talamieka Brice. The show came about as a desire for more representation in the art world. Through the artist combined 50 years of experience they’d never participated in a show where they weren’t the only minority being both black and female.
“Usually, I’m the only artist of color or only female.” Said Domnick as the others nodded in agreement.
“There’s a serious lack of representation in the art world, and this show aims to rectify some of that by showing black women working in the art field as well as the diversity of their styles, added Brice.
“It’s important to see yourself in the world, and growing up I didn’t see a lot of artists that looked like me or could relate to my life experiences,” related Howard.
How We Fly will have an Opening Reception at the Arts Center of Mississippion Saturday February 22, from 4-7pm. There will be an Artist Talk at 5. The event is free and open to the public.
